Third-ranked Madison Academy flexed its muscles in defeating Class 4A, Region 7 foe Westminster Christian 52-14 on Friday at Bill Washington Stadium in Madison.
The Mustangs (3-1, 2-0) led 45-7 at the half behind a monster effort from running back Will Stokes. The senior ran for 254 yards and three touchdowns and added a 50-yard punt return for a score. He finished the night with 310 total yards – all in the first half.
Brandon Musch led Westminster (1-2, 0-2) with a rushing touchdown in the first half and a fourth-quarter TD on a 1-yard run.
Harrison Cerriway finished the scoring for Madison Academy on a 5-yard run.
Star of the game: Stokes for his 310 total yards and 4 touchdowns
Play of the game: Westminster’s Walker Thorsen dropped a tremendous punt down to the Mustang 1-yard line with only 51 seconds left in the half. Stokes took the handoff from quarterback Carson Creehan, split the Wildcat defense and raced 99 yards for a the score to seal the visitors’ fate.
Stat sheet: Madison Academy – 495 total yards, 362 rushing. Creehan completed 8-of-14 for 133 yards and one touchdown. Jaylen Holmes caught six passes for 119 yards and one touchdown. Westminster – 225 total yards. 67 yards rushing with Musch completing 10-of-29 passes for 158 yards. Isaiah Lattimore had four receptions for 94 yards. Matt Jensen also caught four passes for 51 yards.
