In Khon Kaen 2 doctors were found to be infected with Covid-19, and their hospital decided to suspend accepting new patients and postpone scheduled operations as a result. According to the provincial public health office chief, the 2 doctors worked at Khon Kaen University’s Srinagarind Hospital in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine. All hospital staff and patients who may have been exposed by the doctors between March 22 and April have been advised to be tested and go into self-quarantine.
The first doctor, a 26 year old man who is Khon Kaen’s 15th recorded Covid-19 infection, confirmed the virus on Friday. He went to a restaurant and a department store and met with some patients and colleagues after he had been infected but before he was tested and the infection identified. The second doctor, 25 years old, also interacted with several doctors, hospital workers, and patients. He had also travelled to Bangkok.
The 2 men had reportedly been in contact with an infected person at a concert they attended at a restaurant named Magenta in Hugz Mall on March 26th. The venue will undergo inspection to see if proper Covid-19 prevention measures required in Khon Kaen were being enforced. In response to the Coronavirus announcement, the singer of that concert posted on Instagram her own negative Covid-19 test results.
Srinagarind Hospital immediately elevated Covid-19 safety measures, and, as a result, limited medical services due to a reduced ability to provide assistance. Patients that had enough medicine were asked to reschedule any appointments from now until April 16. All non-emergency surgeries are delayed as well in order to make any urgent care patients a priority.
Despite these 2 new infections and various other clusters around the country, the Songkran holiday just 1 week away is still planned to take place in Khon Kaen and throughout Thailand.
