The Northampton and Granby baseball teams earned top seeds in the first Western Massachusetts tournaments in more than a year.
The Blue Devils are No. 1 in the 15-team Division 1 field, and the undefeated Rams lead the 14 teams in Division 4. Programs could opt in or out of the postseason, and all seeding was done by winning percentages. Coin flips broke ties. No power rating system was used.
Northampton (11-2) has a bye and will await the winner of No. 8 Chicopee and No. 9 Agawam for a 4 p.m. quarterfinal Monday at home.
Holyoke (5-6) earned the No. 10 seed and will play No. 7 Minnechaug (7-5) at 7 p.m. Friday night at Spec Pond. The winner of that game gets either No. 2 West Springfield (11-3) or No. 15 Ludlow (0-11) in Monday’s quarterfinals.
Amherst (0-14) will be the No. 14 seed. The Hurricanes will travel to No. 3 Pittsfield (9-4) at 5 p.m. Friday.
In Division 4, Granby will await either No 8 Franklin Tech (9-6) or No. 9 Smith Academy (7-5) in the quarterfinals Monday at 4 p.m. The Eagles and Falcons will play at 4 p.m. Friday in Turners Falls.
Hopkins Academy, the two-time defending sectional champion, is No. 2 at 11-1 and also earned a bye to Monday’s quarterfinals. The Golden Hawks will face either No. 7 Pioneer Regional (7-4) or No. 10 Mount Everett (6-7) at 4 p.m. Monday in Hadley. Their first round game is Friday at 4 in Northfield.
No. 6 Smith Vocational (6-3) will host No. 11 Lenox (6-7) at 4 p.m. Friday. The winner gets either No. 3 Westfield Tech (9-3) or No. 14 Pioneer Christian (1-6) in Monday’s quarterfinals. The highest remaining seed will host.
Sci-Tech earned the top seed in the Division 3 field at 8-0, winning a coin flip over No. 2 Taconic (13-0). There are 18 teams in the tournament.
Frontier (10-2) will be No. 3 and face No. 14 South Hadley (4-7) in the first round Monday.
Easthampton (9-3) drew the No. 4 seed and is hosting No. 13 Athol (5-8) on Monday.
No. 8 Belchertown (7-5) has No. 9 Putnam (4-3) at home Friday at 4 p.m.
Hampshire Regional drew the 16th seed and will host No. 17 Mahar (3-8) in Friday’s preliminary round at 4 p.m. The winner travels to Sci-Tech on Monday at 4 p.m.
Defending Western Mass. champion Hampshire is the No. 1 seed in the Division 2 tournament with an undefeated 12-0 record. The Raiders won a coin flip over No. 2 Sabis (12-0). Both received a bye into Monday’s quarterfinals.
The Raiders will await either No. 8 Monson (7-5) or No. 9 Hoosac Valley (7-6) on Monday in the quarterfinals.
No. 5 Easthampton (11-1) is hosting No. 12 Frontier Regional (6-6) at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
No. 14 Belchertown (4-8) is at No. 3 Wahconah (12-1) at 7 p.m. Friday.
In Division 3, Hopkins Academy (9-2) grabbed the No. 4 seed and is hosting No. 13 Pioneer Regional (3-10) at 4 p.m. Friday. Turners Falls is the undefeated No. 1 seed.
No. 5 Gateway (7-3) will host No. 12 Mohawk Trail (4-10) at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Smith Vocational (7-4) is No. 7 and will play No. 10 Mount Everett (5-8) at 4 p.m. Friday.
No. 11 Smith Academy (3-7) will travel to No. 6 Mount Greylock at 4 p.m. Friday.
Granby (0-13), the 15th seed, is at No. 2 Franklin Tech at 4 p.m. Friday.
Holyoke is the No. 9 seed in the 11-team Division 1 field. The Purple Knights (3-8) are at No. 8 Longmeadow (4-8) on Friday. The winner will face No. 1 Chicopee (12-0) on Monday.
Belchertown is the No. 9 seed in the Division 3 tournament. The Orioles (4-6) will visit No. 8 Advanced Math and Science (5-7) in the first round. The winner gets No. 1 Wahconah (8-0) in the quarterfinals. Times and dates for the lacrosse tournaments are still to be determined.
No. 13 Granby (0-11) is at No. 4 North Middlesex (11-3).
Belchertown earned a bye to the quarterfinals of the Division 2 tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Orioles (11-1) will host either No. 7 Granby (8-5) or No. 10 St. Mary’s (6-6), which play in the first round.
In Division 1, No. 10 Northampton (3-7) will face No. 7 Nashoba on the road in the first round. The winner of that game will visit No. 2 Agawam (9-3) in the quarterfinals.
No. 12 Amherst (0-9) is at No. 5 Minnechaug (8-4) in the first round. Whoever wins gets No. 4 Longmeadow (9-4) in the quarters.
In the six-team bracket, Amherst Regional earned the No. 2 seed and a bye to the semifinals Monday. The Hurricanes (9-1) will face either No. 3 Chicopee Comp (8-3) or No. 6 Minnechaug (1-9), who play Friday. The final is Wednesday.
In Division 3, defending champion No. 2 Belchertown (9-1) will host No. 3 Sabis (4-5) on Monday. The winner will travel to No. 1 Lee on Wednesday for the sectional title.
Belchertown (9-1) is the No. 2 seed in the five-team Division 1 field and will face No. 3 Chicopee Comp in Friday’s semifinals. The championship is scheduled for Wednesday.
Frontier Regional (6-2) earned the No. 5 seed in Division 3. The Redhawks drew No. 4 Lee (5-1) in Friday’s quarterfinals.
No. 5 Holyoke (10-2) will host No. 12 Belchertown (5-6) in the first round at a time and date to be determined.
With no individual tournaments this spring, wrestling will be a dual-meet tournament. Only two teams opted in for the Division 3 field.
No. 1 Hampshire Regional (4-4) will host No. 2 Taconic (1-4) at 5 p.m. Friday for the sectional title.
In Division 1, top-seeded Minnechaug (6-0) is hosting both bouts Saturday. No. 2 Holyoke (3-2) will face No. 3 Agawam (3-1) at 11 a.m. Saturday. The winner will then take on the Falcons for the title.
