It looks like the upgrades and construction ahead of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary — Magic Kingdom opened in 1971 — are continuing to ramp up. Cinderella Castle is getting bunting and paint, several attractions are getting new signage, and Disney’s famed Monorail system doesn’t want to be left out! Disney has now filed permits regarding Monorail signage at the EPCOT loading station.

Disney Permit Points to New Monorail Signs

The historic transformation of EPCOT (formerly Epcot or EPCOT Center) is underway, with the removal of the “tombstone”-like Leave a Legacy blocks, the burgeoning neighborhoods, and now the soon-to-be-updated Monorail station signage. Considering the new EPCOT logo and font (and a return to EPCOT’s original themes) it’s no wonder that the Disney Resort is looking to freshen up either signage related to Walt Disney’s Prototype Community of Tomorrow.

Disney’s latest permit with the Orange County Comptroller is for the installation of signage in the Avenue of the Stars area. This corresponds to the EPCOT Monorail Station. The construction or refurbishment will be done by Design Communications LTD and, technically, can occur any time before April 2022, according to expiration dates on the permits.

The current signage has EPCOT labeled with its old formatting, which used lowercase letters after the “E”.  The theme park’s updated logo is in all uppercase, which may play a role in this refurbishment. Disney, however has not yet confirmed anything regarding this update.
