Whether it’s hip-hop, rock, psychedelic music, big festivals, or niche ones, this guide to 7 new music festivals has something for everyone.
Everyone is ready to let some steam off in 2022, right? As you are considering returning to some of the big events, consider some of the lesser-known ones. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to be at Glastonbury Festival in 1970, then wonder no more. DMZ Peace Train
This music festival takes place in South Korea, close to the border with North Korea. It’s being hosted by Seoul and is intended to promote peace and unification at a site symbolizing the division of the Korean Peninsula.
Initially, most of the performers were Korean, but that’s already started changing in its second year. Whether you are looking to get acquainted with regional music or looking for a more global feel, definitely a place worth checking out.
Avant Garde
A three-day festival of techno-industrial, industrial hardcore, acid techno, and dark techno taking place in Quebec in Fall 2022. It can be roughly described as having cyberpunk philosophy, aesthetics, and visuals. Going off of their promo video, it’s safe to assume that this is probably the wildest one on the list.
Something in the Water Festival
Famously debuted by Pharrel Williams, this one is coming back in 2022. The three-day event will take place in mid-June in Washington, DC. Some of the artists and bands you might get to see there include Ja Rule, Dave Matthews Band, Calvin Harris, Run The Jewels, and Tyler the Creator. As you can see, a little bit of everything for everyone.

Elysium Island Festival
This small and relatively unknown festival takes place on a small river island in Sremski Karlovci, Serbia. This small event will host a few hundred people in late July 2022. The lineup is not out yet, but going by the festival’s mission statement and previous years, the atmosphere and music will stay true to psytrance roots. If huge events don’t do it for you anymore, if they are not true enough, then small, organic festivals like this one are definitely for you.
Zicatela
Taking place in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, in an absolutely charming place. Even though the event for 2022 is over, keep your ears peeled for the next event because this is a great place to let it all out with some DJs known and unknown, and have a great seaside vacation. As soon as you hear about the next dates for this local event, go ahead and book a hotel in Puerto Escondido—you won’t regret it.
All Points East
This annual music festival is held over two weekends in London’s Victoria Park. The whole event is actually comprised of a weekend music festival followed by four days of free entry and community activities known as “In the Neighbourhood.” To top it all off, three standalone headline shows are then held.
Although the festival is relatively new, it’s already won awards for best lineup and best festival in the UK in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
The 2022 lineup doesn’t fail to impress with names such as Gorillaz, Kraftwerk, The Chemical Brothers, Tame Impala, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and others. If you are really into big music festivals, you can’t go wrong with this one this year.
